Massachusetts Earned Sick Time Law Now In Effect

The Earned Sick Time Law requiring employers in the state of Massachusetts with 11 or more employees to provide paid sick time is effective as of July 1, 2015.

The law requires that employers allow that all Massachusetts employees, full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal can earn and use sick time from work.

The law comes with an extension for employers that already provide paid time off or paid sick leave as of May 1, 2015. These employers are considered to be in compliance with the Earned Sick Time Law until January 1, 2016, provided they comply with certain safe harbor requirements.

For information about the new law, please access the Notice of Employee Rights issued by the Attorney General’s office and/or visit their web site.
