ALL CPAs Intern Annie Lam – Simmons University 2021
Each year, ALL CPAs is joined by a group of impressive interns for tax season. Learn more about the young professionals completing their tax internships with the firm in our ALL CPAs Intern Spotlights. In this spotlight, learn more about Annie Lam of Simmons University, who is a student-athlete on Simmon’s Swimming & Diving team, enjoys going on spontaneous trips, and spends time volunteering with the youth.
1. Hi Annie, can you tell us a little about yourself? Where did you grow up and attend school?
Hi! I am originally from Framingham, MA but I moved to Natick, MA in the start of middle school. I went to Natick High School and I am now a junior at Simmons University.
2. I see that you are a student-athlete at Simmons on the Swimming & Diving team. What is your favorite event to compete in? Any tips on how us novice swimmers could improve? What’s it like balancing school and sports?
Shout out to the Simmon Sharks! My favorite event to compete in varies each year. This year it has been the 200 Individual Medley and the 50 Breaststroke. One tip I can give to the novice swimmers is to not fight against the water, but let the water carry your body weight. As weird as it sounds, it helps to learn how to get a feel for the water by working on catching the water.
At first, balancing school and sports was quite difficult because I had to adapt to waking up at 5:30am every morning and sleeping at 9:30. To this day, I still can not get myself to sleep that early. But being able to do a sport organizes my schedule better so that I can get my assignments done earlier.
(Editor’s note: Annie has competed in an impressive 13 different events for her college team!)
3. I also see that you have a lot of volunteer experience. Is there any type of activity or cause that you particularly like to volunteer with?
I usually don’t have any preferences when it comes volunteering services. I think I naturally tend to volunteer services with younger kids because I love the stress-less energy they give me.
4. If not a CPA, what’s another career could you see yourself pursuing?
Physical Therapy. The human body itself always fascinated me and to be able to help others in this field is what I would have done instead of Accounting.
5. Simmons is right in the heart of Boston. Do you enjoy being so close to Fenway and other schools?
I love that Simmons is in Boston because before, I never realized there were so many other schools that were surrounded in the heart of Boston. Fun fact, I have never gone to a baseball game yet.
6. Favorite book, movie or TV show you would recommend?
If you like zombies, Train to Busan is a classic.
7. Any plans for the spring or summer?
As of now, no. I usually plan spontaneous trips last minute.
8. Favorite thing about being an ALL CPAs intern?
Personally, my favorite thing about being in ALL is everyone’s friendliness and support for one another. This to me is very important when it comes to a teamwork environment.
