Each year, ALL CPAs is joined by a group of impressive interns for tax season. Learn more about the young professionals completing their tax internships with the firm in our ALL CPAs Intern Spotlights.  In this spotlight, learn more about Owen Langone of Suffolk University.

1. Hi Owen, can you tell us a little about yourself? Where did you grow up and attend school?

I’ve spent my whole life growing up in Woburn, MA. In fact, I’m a fourth-generation Woburnite. I went to Woburn High School and graduated in 2018. Currently, I’m a junior at Suffolk University trying to earn my undergrad in corporate accounting and finance.

2. I understand one of your passions is weight lifting, and your goal one day is to open your own gym. Would this be a regular gym, or would it have a twist to differentiate it? What would you name the gym?

I have a few ideas. I’ve been thinking a lot about opening a gym but potentially franchising different athletic stores like Lululemon or Nike to have within the gym space to attract more customers to the gym itself. The tricky part would be finding a large enough space that could accommodate retail storefronts and the gym itself.

3. I also understand you are passionate about investing. How did you develop this interest? What are your thoughts on the GameStop stock that has been dominating the news?

It was back in high school when I gained an interest in investing. I was taking a banking class, and we did a whole unit on the stock market. I figured it would be great to start investing early, and it would be a great way to build wealth. Personally, I stayed away from GameStop stock and watched from far, far away. The bubble was going to pop eventually.

(Editor’s note: Owen was too humble to mention, but in 2018 Owen (pictured middle) and his classmates won first place in the Mass School Bank Association’s 2018 Banking Bowl competition.)

 4. Switching topics, if not a CPA, what’s another career could you see yourself pursuing?

I’ve definitely considered a career in law. If I didn’t pursue a career in the accounting field, I am interested in real estate or contract law. Law is such a diverse field with so many options. I don’t see myself fighting in courts, but a lawyer can take so many career paths that intrigue me.

5. Favorite book, movie or TV show you would recommend?

I recently watched the prequel to Breaking Bad, which is Better Call Saul. It’s through the perspective of Saul Goodman, the entertaining but sleazy lawyer, that represented Walter White in Breaking Bad.

6. Favorite place to visit?

I’ve only been once, but it’s stuck with me. I love South Carolina and the Myrtle Beach area. It’s so much different from here in landscape and in its weather. I’ll move down there someday.

 7. What is your favorite food or meal?

Poutine is #1 on my food list. It’s french fries with gravy and cheese curds. It doesn’t get more savory (and unhealthy!) than that. I also love all seafood.

8. What would you choose as your spirit animal?

I would definitely choose a panda bear. They are known to be very gentle creatures that only become aggressive when threatened.

9. When things get back to normal, what are you most looking forward to doing?

What I’m looking forward to the most is doing the things that used to be so normal, like going out to eat and going to the gym. Although necessary, it’s frustrating that they have such tight restrictions right now.

 10. Favorite thing about being an ALL CPAs intern?

My favorite thing has been meeting all of the new people. I love meeting new people and learning a thing or two from them as well. Other than that, it’s the technical experience I’m gaining.
