BOSTON— June 15, 2021—ALL CPAs announced today that partner Laura O’Brien, CPA was elected to serve on the Massachusetts Society of CPAs (MSCPA) board of directors as the board vice-chair, finance committee chair for its 2021-2022 fiscal year.
The MSCPA board of directors is a group of 19 elected members that sets policies, manages programs, and oversees activities that benefit the 11,000-member organization and accounting profession in Massachusetts. Laura has served on the MSCPA board of directors since 2018 and was also named a 2019 MSCPA Woman to Watch in the Experienced Leader category.
Laura plans to use her new leadership position to help bring new resources to firms and to pique students’ interest in the accounting profession. “Over the past 15 months, the MSCPA has taken what was a strong support network and enhanced it even more. From legislative advocacy for the profession to training on the ever-fluctuating tax policy and stimulus packages. The MSCPA has upped its’ game to provide new resources to its members. I hope to be able to be a part of determining what resources firms will need as we enter a new stage and reawaken from this pandemic age. I would also like to continue to provide outreach to students both at the high school and college level. I want to share my passion for the industry and how a career in accounting is evolving,” said Laura.
Through the board, Laura also wants to address issues facing the profession. “One of the challenges facing the profession is change. Change in how we do business, how we train, what technologies we use. The PPP rules changed week by week. We needed to set up remote offices in less than 24 hours. The talents and skills needed are also changing. How can small and midsize firms adapt to this change to be sustainable and remain relevant? What must we anticipate next?”
Since joining ALL CPAs in 1993, Laura has built a strong client base servicing the accounting and tax needs of individuals and privately held businesses. Her focus has given her a major role in clients’ wealth management and her clients include businesses in a broad range of industries including service, medicine, education, investment, and real estate.
“The MSCPA’s board of directors are a remarkable diverse group of individuals who play a vital role in shaping the priorities of the Society and truly want to better the profession,” said Amy Pitter, president and CEO of the MSCPA. “I am thrilled to have Laura on the board and look forward to seeing how her leadership will continue to benefit the Society, community and the profession in the year ahead.”
A Brookline resident, Laura has been an active volunteer in innumerable children’s school and sports programs, including serving on the board of the Brookline Public Schools PTO. She also supports ALL’s community outreach efforts and is a vocal proponent for Diversity and Inclusion initiatives. She is involved in several professional organizations and takes an active role in women’s initiatives at the MSCPA.
“This is a great honor for Laura and we are proud of her achievements and distinction she brings the firm and to the profession, ” said Ron Loberfeld, managing partner of ALL CPAs.
